This was our view above Haiti. Many people joke around that you can tell where Haiti starts and the Dominican Republic ends based on how green the mountains are, sadly it is not a joke and neither is it funny, it’s true. We have a huge deforestation problem in Haiti where the trees are being cut down for charcoal and not being re-planted. Some effects of deforestation include: loss of nutrients in the soil, leaving the soil unable to grow more trees; flooding because there aren’t any trees to absorb the rain falls; and extinction of many life forms. How do you suppose we fix this problem? How each one of us take responsibility.
